How does therapy work?

Seeking therapy can elicit fear and anxiety. An initial consultation session is scheduled with Heather to answer questions about the therapeutic process. The initial session will also provide information about Heather's expertise and therapeutic framework. It will then be determined the best frequency of treatment, typically weekly, that will best be suitable to meet the client's needs. For therapy to be most effective the client be an active participant both during and between the sessions. Persons seeking therapy are willing to take responsibility for their actions, are interested in becoming more self-aware in their lives, and work towards self and relationship change. Here are some things to expect in therapy:

  • Compassion, respect, and understanding
  • A non-judgmental atmosphere
  • View points to highlight negative feelings and patterns
  • Strategies and guidance for promoting change

Does Heather accept insurance?

For many reasons, specifically patient confidentiality, Heather does not bill insurance companies for payment. Heather requests payment to be provided at the time of service and provides monthly invoices in which her clients submit to their own companies for reimbursement. Check your coverage carefully. Keep these questions in mind when understanding your coverage:

  • What are my mental health benefits and do I have a deductible?
  • How much does my plan cover for per therapy session for an out-of-network provider?
  • How many sessions does my plan cover?
  • Is an approval required from my primary care physician?

Is therapy kept private?

Your privacy is very important to Heather and is a significant component to treatment. Florida law protects the confidentiality of all communications between the client and their psychotherapist, except within certain situations that involve child abuse and life endangerment. Heather will request written permission from the client to conduct any verbal communication outside of the therapy process.
